November 14th, 2011
Dear Fifth Grade Family,
CONGRATULATIONS!
We’ve done it! We’ve raised enough money in Parent Donations and FUNdraising to send your 5th grade student(s) to ASTROCAMP! This has been such a fun and exciting journey getting to this point. Here are a few things you should know:
- We will use the upcoming FUNDraisers to complete our final $1063.00 we need.
- McDonald’s Night
- Skate Night
- Holiday Boutique
- We now have the great opportunity to turn over our other planned FUNdraisers to PTO.
- Fresh and Easy
- Tile Wall
- Rummage Sale
- Bake Sales
- In the past Parent Donations have been 80%. This year’s economy has changed that figure to 71%.
- In January 2012 you will receive a packet home which includes the following:
- Permission Slip
- Responsibility Contract
- Astrocamp Brochure
- OVSD Medical Form Packet
- Prescription Medications
- Temperature Check
- What your child should bring to ASTROCAMP
- There will be 4 Circle View Staff Members attending
- There will be 3 Parent Chaperones per class attending.
Thank you all so much for your donations, volunteer time and contributions to meeting our goal. So now it’s for sure our kids are on their way to ASTROCAMP March 23rd, 2012 through March 25th, 2012.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Karen Sandors

Dear Fifth Grade Family,
Yesterday was our final day to collect checks for Astrocamp Parent Donations. If you noted on your Blue ASTROCAMP Sheet back in September that you would be able to make a donation towards the 2012 ASTROCAMP Program and are still able to make your Tax Deductible Donation please send cash or check (Checks cashed mid-November.) ASAP, payable to Circle View with a Memo: Astrocamp 2012 & Child/Children Name(s) (as this will help us get a better idea of where we stand). Thank you in advance for all of your support. Again we have listed some of the challenges that we are facing this year due to the current economic climate, and to determine our next steps. Below are a few important points that were shared at the meeting:
§ Astrocamp began as part of the GATE Magnet 25 years ago (1986). In 1990 it was expanded to include all of the 5th grade students at Circle View.
§ Astrocamp is scheduled this year for March 23-25, 2012.
§ There have been major cuts to education which means there is no district money available for Astrocamp and PTO cannot help, as their mission is to fund the entire school and that is a large task all its own.
§ We need to raise approximately $34,320.00 ($260 per child) in order for all fifth grade students to attend Astrocamp.
§ The two major funding sources for this trip will be parent donations and fundraising profits.
§ A steering committee was formed to help begin fundraising for the trip: Co-Chairs – Rosalind Price & Laurie Robertson
§ In order to confirm our reservation, it is necessary to get an accurate count of how many students will be attending and how many parents are able to donate money towards the trip.
§ A non-refundable deposit is due to Astrocamp by the middle of November; therefore, all parent donations must be received by Friday, November 11, 2011. If we do not collect 80% of the total cost of the trip through parent donations, we will need to cancel the trip. Please note no checks will be cashed ahead of time, therefore all donations will be returned in the event that Astrocamp is canceled.
Please make any donation you are able to make as soon as possible, but no later than Friday, November 11, 2011. Your tax deductible donation is strictly voluntary. Please know that any donation you make is greatly appreciated! We realize that this is an expensive time a year for you and we greatly appreciate your donation. If you have already made your donation, thank you. J
Sincerely,
Mrs. Karen Sandors

It truly makes science come alive through experiences that are fun, challenging, and achievable.
Astrocamp is a hand’s on physical science program with an emphasis on astronomy and space exploration. For three days your children will get to do team building activities such as rappelling and doing rope courses. They also work in experiential science labs building rockets, experimenting with gravity, stargazing, learning the constellations and much more.
In order to send all fifth graders to Astrocamp this year we need to raise $34,320 in parent donations and fundraising (Fundraising efforts are only for Scholarships required to go to Astrocamp). This is roughly $260 per student and includes transportation, food and lodging.
So far we have collected $13,380 in parent donations, last year at this time we were already at $22,800 in parent donations. To secure our spot at Astrocamp we have to make a non-refundable deposit of $5,000 by November 18.
We must have 80% of the cost of the program by Wednesday, November the 2nd, 2011. That means over the next few weeks we must to collect $14,076. Please turn your check in ASAP if you have already committed to an amount, you may give to your teacher at Parent Teacher Conference. Even if you are unable to donate the full $260, any amount that you can afford will help.
I hate to say this, but if we don’t collect this amount by Wednesday, November the 2nd, 2011, we will have to cancel our reservation for Astrocamp.
Sincerely,
Principal Karen Sandors & Your 2012 Astrocamp Committee
